What does an orthopedic brace do?

Orthopedic Brace

An orthopedic brace is a medical device designed to support, stabilize, and protect injured or weak joints, muscles, or bones. These braces help control movement, reduce strain, and allow for proper healing by limiting motion or providing extra support to the affected area. Depending on the injury or condition, braces can be used for various body parts, such as the knee, ankle, wrist, shoulder, or spine.

Here are the key functions of an orthopedic brace:

  1. Immobilization: For injuries like fractures or sprains, a brace may restrict movement to prevent further damage while the injury heals.
  2. Support: Braces provide external support to areas weakened by injury, surgery, or chronic conditions, like arthritis, to help alleviate pain and promote stability.
  3. Compression: Many braces offer compression, which helps reduce swelling and inflammation in soft tissues around the injury.
  4. Pain Relief: By reducing pressure on the injured or weakened area and restricting movement, braces can help alleviate pain and discomfort.
  5. Rehabilitation: After surgery or during recovery from injury, braces assist in rehabilitation by guiding the healing process and helping users regain strength and mobility while avoiding re-injury.

Orthopedic braces are often recommended by healthcare professionals for short-term or long-term use, depending on the patient’s condition. They are commonly used in sports injuries, post-surgical recovery, and to manage chronic conditions like arthritis or scoliosis.

Manufactured by Royal Biologics, info from Royal Biologics Website: The evolution of our mineral and collagen composite bone grafts has advanced with the launch of our unique bioactive glass, mineral, and collagen composite bone graft solutions. Bio-Reign® Bioactive bone graft matrices are a combination of three components: carbonate apatite anorganic bovine bone mineral, 45S5 bioactive glass, and Type I Collagen. When combined, they provide an optimal scaffold to support the body’s natural ability to regenerate new bone.

Bio-Reign® Bioactive Moldable is a bioactive, osteoconductive porous implant that supports an ideal environment for bone growth regeneration.

BIO-REIGN® INDICATION FOR USE

  • Combined with either autogenous bone marrow or autograft with saline is indicated for bony voids or gaps, that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bony structure. Bio-Reign® Bioactive Moldable can also be used with autograft as a bone graft extender.
  • The device is to be gently packed into bony voids or gaps of the skeletal system (i.e., posterolateral spine). These defects may be surgically created osseous defects or osseous defects created from traumatic injury to the bone. The device resorbs and is replaced with bone during the natural healing process.

OPTIMAL COMPONENTS

Carbonate Apatite Anorganic Bovine Bone Mineral, 45S5 Bioactive Glass, Highly Purified Type I Collagen
